Who is Father of WiFi ?

WiFi has become part of our life. Wherever we go there is WiFi available, some for free to lure customers and some come at a price. But have you ever wondered who was behind the development of this technology which has become such a common place. Let us know about the gentleman who is rightly called the "Father of WiFi".
Victor "Vic" Hayes was born on 31 July 1941 in Surabaya, Dutch East Indies. A former Senior Research Fellow at the Delft University of Technology, but it was his role in establishing and chairing the IEEE 802.11 Standards Working Group for Wireless Local Area Networks that has led to him being honoured by few as the "Father of Wi-Fi". Hayes graduated from the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, where he pursued electrical engineering.
Some of the notable achievements of Victor Hayes are as follows:
- In the year 1998, he received IEEE Standards Association's Standards Medallion “for the internationalization of the IEEE 802.11 standard”.
- In the year 2000, he received IEEE Leadership Award “for 10 years of leadership and extraordinary dedication as chairman of the IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN Working Group”.
- In the year 2001, he was honoured with IEEE Computer Society's Hans Karlsson Standards Award.
- In the year 2002, he was awarded Wi-Fi Alliance Leadership Award “in recognition of the outstanding leadership of the Regulatory Committee of the Wi-Fi Alliance”.
- In the year 2003, he received Wi-Fi Alliance Leadership Award “for outstanding leadership as Regulatory Chair and continued support of the Wi-Fi Alliance”.
- In the year 2004, he was honoured with Innovation Award in the category communications from The Economist.
- In the year 2004 again, he received Vosko Trophy for Business and Innovation from Vosko Networking.
- In the year 2007, he was honoured with IEEE Charles Proteus Steinmetz Award.
- In the year 2012, he received George R. Stibitz Computer & Communications Pioneer Award.
- In the year 2013, he was honoured with IT Hall of Fame inductee.
- In the year 2013 again, he was given Lovie Lifetime Achievement Award.
So we can see that Victor Hayes has been rightfully honoured as the "Father of WiFi".
