The Internet is basically a global system of interconnected computer networks which utilize the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to communicate between networks as well as devices. You can say it is a network of networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, which is linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. The Internet infact carries a vast range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mail, telephony, and file sharing.
So now the question is, internet is useful for reading? Of course it is. You see internet is the largest knowledge bank in the human society. Nothing as big was ever created. It is the biggest library of the world. But having said that there are also certain issues with this internet library.
Firstly, you have to read the stuff on internet on electronic devices which is not good for the eyes. Eye strain have become a common problem in the society these days because we are more engaged with our mobile, tablets etc than the way we use to engage with nature. It is true even the paper books can cause eye strain with pro long reading but the electronic devices simply expedite the process of eye straining.
Secondly, you need internet connections. Although for reading even a 2G internet would suffice but you must understand that even today many parts of the world don't have proper internet reach. So these people living in such areas are not able to fully utilize or even know about this big library known as Internet.
Thirdly, comes the biggest issue of the century which is fake news or knowledge. How could you be so sure that the knowledge provided on the internet is genuine. You could become a victim of fake knowledge. One could argue that the knowledge from reputable site can be considered genuine but there is no guarantee to this genuineness. The reason for doubting their genuineness is, their method of ensuring genuinity might not be foolproof.
Like any good thing everything has its pros and cons. Having said that the internet is a boon to human society if we use it the right way.
